This site is a small collection of essays and short articles about J.R.R. Tolkien and his imagined world.
I sometimes refer to the Greater Tolkien Canon, by which I mean the books published or authorised by JRRT or his son Christopher as his literary executor, and presented as finished, broadly consistent histories. The Greater Canon comprises the Hobbit, the Lord of the Rings, the published Silmarillion, the Unfinished Tales, and the three Great Tales of the Children of Hurin, Beren and Luthien, and the Fall of Gondolin. The literary archaeology of the History of Middle Earth volumes is deliberately excluded so a broadly consistent canon can be established.
